The authorities of the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division said the special ticket checking drive on the Kanyakumari-bound Jayanti Janata express was launched on Monday in the wake of numerous complaints about unauthorised occupation of reserved coaches by season ticket holders and other commuters.
A statement by the public relations office of the division said the Kerala High Court had passed orders to regulate entry of commuters in reserved coaches. Trains are available before and after the Jayanti Janata Express, including 16303 Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Vanchinad express and 16341 Guruvayur-Thiruvananthapuram Intercity express (fully unreserved trains) which arrive at Thiruvananthapuram Central before 10 a.m.
The statement said that only on eight trains daily commuters would be allowed to travel in some of the reserved coaches between some sections. These trains are the Kannyakumari-Mumbai express (between Kanyakumari and Ernakulam in coaches S5, S6, S7, and S10 and S8 and S9 up to Palakkad), the Kanyakumari-Bangalore Express (between Kanyakumari and Ernakulam in coaches S3 and S4 and up to Palakkad on S12), the Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad express (S12 and S13 up to Palakkad), the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Malabar express (up to Kottayam on S6), the Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Malabar express (between Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram in S5 and S6), the Alappuzha-Chennai Express (up to Palakkad in S7), the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai superfast express (up to Ernakulam in S10 and S11) and the Alappuzha-Bokaro express (up to Palakkad in S2 and S4).
