Authorities of the C.K.Nair Memorial Arts &Management College at Padannakkad here will hold a meeting on Wednesday to end the imbroglio over four students wearing purdah to the college.
The college on Thursday indefinitely suspended classes following a student unrest over the issue.
The authorities decided to convene a formal meeting on Wednesday involving college teachers, student union representatives, PTA members, and social activists in the presence of a senior police officer, Principal A.C. Kunhikannan Nair told The Hindu on Friday.
He said the meeting was planned on Wednesday to facilitate those concerned to arrive at a consensus on the issue through informal talks during the intervening period. On reaching a consensus at the Wednesday meeting, the college was planning to hold a meeting with parents of students to avoid student unrest on the campus, he said.
Meanwhile, one of the four girls, a final year BA English Literature student, who came to the college wearing purdah on Wednesday said there were several instances of students being allowed to wear purdah-like dresses in the previous years. She said the girls did not intend to vitiate the college ambience by deliberately violating the dress code of the institution.
Meanwhile, the Hosdurg police have registered cases against five members each of the Muslim Students Federation and the Students Federation of India on the charge of rioting on the campus following a clash between the groups, Hosdurg Sub-Inspector A. Santhosh Kumar said.
