The budget for 2015-16 presented by the Kanhangad municipality accords greater priority for completing the much-delayed new bus station and beautification of the town.

The budget presented here by municipal vice-chairman Prabhakaran Vazhunnoradi has earmarked Rs.6.20 crore for the speedy completion of the new bus station at Alamipally and another Rs.3 crore for town beautification projects.

The Rs.5.87-crore surplus budget projects estimated revenue of Rs.68.12 crore while expenditure is pegged at Rs.62.25 crore.

Another Rs.1.38 crore has been set aside to upgrade the municipal building blocks and premises. A sum of Rs.5 lakh has been earmarked to provide free medical treatment and to distribute new identity cards to migrant labourers in the light of increasing cases of epidemic outbreaks. An amount of Rs.5 lakh will be utilised for rehabilitating street-vendors displaced owing to road-widening in the town.
