Barely a month after the murder of 60-year-old Subaida at her house at Ayampara, near Periye here, the police have arrested the prime suspect in the case. Three other accused are already in judicial custody.

Azeez, 30, a native of Ajjavara near Karnataka’s Sullia town, was rounded up in the Karnataka forests by the investigating team headed by Bekal Circle Inspector V.K. Vishwambharan a few days ago. The arrest was registered late on Thursday, police sources said.

Azeez, produced before a court in Kanhangad on Friday was remanded in two weeks judicial custody.

The police had arrested K.M. Abdul Khader, 26, and P. Abdul Azeez, 23, from Uliyathadukka near here last month. Harshad, 30, a resident of Maanya, had surrendered before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court in Kanhangad recently.

The police, however, are yet to make any headway in the January 13 murder of retired headmistress P.V. Janaki, 65, at her house at Puliyannur near Cheemeni. Three masked robbers had allegedly decamped with a gold chain, ring, and ₹50,000 in cash after stabbing the slain woman’s husband K. Krishnan,72, a retired headmaster.

The murder case 68-year-old housewife Devaki, a resident of Periyattadukkam, in January last year, too remains unresolved. The murder case has been handed over to the Special Crime Branch Department in Kannur.

The police could not get any clues about the case from the arrested foursome.
