The Cabinet has decided to amend the Kerala Land Utilisation Act to provide title deeds for up to four acres held by pre-1977 settlers.
Briefing reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the government would take over land in excess of four acres. At present, title deeds would be given for only up to one acre held by the settlers, he pointed out. The Chief Minister said the Cabinet had also decided to permit import of sand from other States. This follows acceptance of the T. Balakrishnan Committee report on steps needed to solve shortage of sand without hurting the environment, he said and added that the Cabinet had also approved the constitution of a 17-member State Wetland Steering Committee with the Chief Secretary as its convener and officials from various related departments as members.
The Cabinet, he said, had approved the draft agreement between Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Limited. The agreement would be signed at the earliest.
