The police did some quick thinking on the feet on Wednesday as they prevented Sunil Kumar, aka ‘Pulsar’ Suni, main accused in an actor abduction and sexual assault case, from coming good on his promise to reveal the identity of ‘madam,’ a prominent woman he claimed was involved in the case, to the media contingent waiting outside the court.

Media representatives were present in numbers outside the Angamaly Judicial Magistrate Court after Suni, while being taken out of another court, had said that he would reveal the identify of the mystery woman allegedly involved in the case. To avoid any embarrassment from any such revelations, the police simply did not produce Suni before the court. The Angamaly court extended the remand of Suni and his aides including Vijesh to August 30.

The police ploy did not go down well with Suni’s lawyer B.A. Aloor, who promptly alleged a conspiracy behind the police claim before the Angamaly court that Suni could not be produced as he had to be produced in another court some 30 km away almost at the same time.

Mr. Aloor said Suni had revealed to him the role of certain female actors in the case. However, he declined to reveal their identities.

Mr. Aloor filed a petition before the Angamaly court seeking a direction to the police to produce Suni before the court on the ground that the accused wanted to give a secret statement before the court.

Earlier, the police took Suni to the Ernakulam Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in connection with a separate case relating to the alleged abduction bid of another female actor. The court extended his remand custody to August 30 in the case.

It was outside this court Suni told reporters that he would reveal the name of the ‘madam’ when being produced before the Angamaly court. However, he was taken straight to the Kakkanad district jail instead.

Meanwhile, adding another chapter to the long-running Dileep saga, the actor’s mother K.P. Sarojam petitioned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking to take the current investigation officers off the case and to hand it over to agencies such as the Crime Branch.
