PMC: Kannur Collector’s report to be submitted on July 23

July 23, 2013 01:30 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:14 pm IST - KANNUR:

District Collector Rathan Kelkar will submit to the government on July 23 his report on the assets and liabilities of the Pariyaram Medical College (PMC) here.

The State government had asked the Collectors of Kannur and Ernakulam to submit reports on the assets and liabilities of the PMC and the Cooperative Medical College in Kochi as part of taking over the institutions.

The Collector visited the PMC on Monday and held discussions with the college authorities. The college management had earlier submitted its report on the assets and liabilities of the institution.

M.V. Jayarajan, chairman of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-controlled director board of the cooperative institution running the medical college, has already stated that the government takeover of the institution would not be opposed provided the 2,000-plus employees of the institution were absorbed.

The move of the government to take over the college, however, angered the Communist Marxist Party (CMP), a constituent of the ruling United Democratic Front. CMP leader and founder chairman of the PMC society M.V. Raghavan had even threatened to leave the coalition if the takeover decision was taken without any consultation in the ruling alliance.

The fate of the employees in the medical college is expected to be a major issue in case the government decides to go ahead with the takeover plan.
