The Kozhikode Zilla Gramina Thozhilurappu Thozhilali Congress (KJGTTC), functioning under the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), has demanded an increase in the existing wages of labourers working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
A press release issued by the organisation here said the minimum wages should be increased to Rs.200. The number of days of employment in a year should also be increased from 100 to 150, it demanded.
M. Rajan, district president of the organisation, said workers who registered their names under the MGNREGS should be provided rice at Rs.2. A new legislation should also be introduced to prosecute officials who were apathetic in implementing various projects under the MGNREGS, he added.
