A few days ago, city residents were affected by two pipe-bursts at Pottakuzhy and Marappalam. Water supply was, on both occasions, disrupted for more than two days. Over these days, the traffic along these and nearby stretches was disrupted. Once the work was done, everyone heaved a sigh of relief. But, the after-effects of the bursts continue to trouble people who use the roads regularly. Though the gaping holes have been filled with mud, re-tarring has not happened yet and there are large depressions on the middle of the road. Consequently, the vehicles take a deviation as if work was progressing.
Of late, a completely chaotic situation prevails at the West Fort junction. The traffic on the road leading to Eenchakkal, gets chaotic at the West Fort junction due to the absence of an automatic signal or police personnel to regulate traffic.
At the busy junction, traffic gets held up during peak hours.
Negotiating the stretch is an ordeal for motorists. Though there is an enormous flow of traffic at the junction, the authorities have failed to deploy policemen or make a traffic flow plan.
