Students of Mulankadakam Government Lower Primary School in the city were ecstatic when they got a letter from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inviting suggestions to build a new Kerala that is green and plastic-free with safe food for all.

The letter printed in child-friendly format was read out by Muhammed Hamdan, a Class IV student, on Friday morning, to the accompaniment of other students who had a copy in their hands.

“The government is with you; we will go forward together,” said the letter.

The district-level inauguration of a programme designed by the Information and Public Relations Department in association with the Education Department as part of the first anniversary of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government was being held at the school. Mayor V. Rajendrababu was the chief guest.

Along with the letter, there were bundles of name slips for the students. The labels too carried messages on environment protection, water conservation, and safe food.

Through the letter, the Chief Minister exhorted the students to join hands “to make beautiful Kerala more beautiful”.

The Chief Minister called upon the students to lead a campaign not only against littering of plastic waste but also other trash. He invited suggestions from the students for creating a cleaner Kerala.

The letters and the name slip labels were distributed by Mr. Rajendrababu. The function was presided over by local councillor S. Rajmohan. District Information Officer C. Ajoy and school headmistress Rita Rani spoke.
