A photo exhibition capturing rare moments in the life of Jawaharlal Nehru on display here is drawing large crowds.
The exhibition being jointly organised by the Information and Public Relations Department and the Jawahar Public Library was inaugurated by Rural Development Minister K.C. Joseph here on Monday.
The exhibition features photographs of Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Nehru’s wedding, a picture of the leader in the attire of Seva Dal volunteer, photographs captured during his visit to Britain as also in North-Eastern States.
Among the photos displayed at the exhibition are the ones taken in the wake of Gandhiji’s assassination.
There are also photographs of Nehru with members of his family including Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi as children.
Also displayed at the photo exhibition are the snaps of Nehru being sworn in as the country’s first Prime Minister and those showing him with world leaders and great personalities such as John F. Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth, Mao Zedong, Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, Albert Einstein and Tagore, among others.
Great role
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Joseph said that Nehru’s diplomacy and planning had played a great role in the country’s achievements. Nehru’s ideas had paved the foundation of the progress of the country, he said adding that attempts are on to ignore the contributions of Nehru.
The people of the country are ashamed by attempts to glorify those behind the assassination of Gandhiji, he pointed out.
District panchayat president K.A. Sarala presided over the function. District Collector P. Bala Kiran, municipal chairperson Roshni Khalid and vice-chairman T.O. Mohanan were also present.
