KOCHI: Protesting against the alleged discrepancies in the daily pricing of petroleum products, Petroleum Dealers Coordination Committee (PDCC), the joint council of fuel station owners in the State, has decided to close pumps on July 11.
Addressing the media here on Monday, the organisation said the new move was a major setback for the petroleum retail sector as the outlets were forced to sell products at a price less than they were bought at.
“The Petroleum Ministry and oil companies say that they fluctuate prices in accordance with the movement in the international crude market. However, the prices here change even on Saturdays and Sundays which are holidays in the international market,” they pointed out.
Alleging that the Ministry was colluding with oil companies to cheat traders, they called for a scientific implementation of the decision.
PDCC members have decided to boycott premium petroleum products from Sunday. Besides, they have decided not to take stock from July 8. A total of 2,200 fuel stations are expected to join the strike.
