Parents of Paravur girl convicted

The parents of the girl from Paravur who was raped by her father and sold for prostitution were found guilty by the Ernakulam District Sessions Court here on Monday.

The father has already been found guilty in three other cases relating to the abuse of the girl. He was awarded a 10-year sentence and a fine of Rs.40,000 in this case.

The girl’s mother, who had been let off in the other cases, was found guilty of selling the girl for prostitution in this case.

She was sentenced to seven years and a fine of Rs.40,000.

The third accused in the case, Rajasekharan Nair, 73, committed suicide on June 8, two days before the court was set to pronounce its judgement.

He had allegedly visited the girl’s house and paid Rs.50,000 to her parents and abused the girl.
