Panel report a farce: Hassan

Terming the report of the Justice P.S. Antony Commission which probed the scandal against former Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran as a farce, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president M.M. Hassan wondered how the panel could come to a conclusion that the conversations were fake without examining the audio tapes.

He told the media here on Thursday that the commission was appointed only to exonerate the Minister. Mr. Saseendran had resigned the post out of moral turpitude. No comprehensive investigation had been carried out in the case. In that context it was unscrupulous to make him a Minister, Mr. Hassan said.

The KPCC president said the people would not accept the LDF government’s attempt to gag the media. In connection with the case of Mr. Saseendran, it was reported that the licence of a television channel should be revoked. This government feared the media and this was seen in the decision to revoke the licence of a particular channel.

However, the government did not want to say that directly so it was presented in the form of a recommendation of a judicial commission, he said.
