Onam has taken a floral route to the virtual world of celebrations this year with Pookkalams finding a pride of place on the website of Kerala Tourism.

An innovative Pookkalam adds colours to the much-visited website of Kerala Tourism, www.keralatourism.org. The floral arrangement on the site has a whopping 600 video clips about Kerala, including the traditional Onam cuisine, enchanting backwaters, serene beaches and the rejuvenating Ayurveda.

The flower decoration —http://www.keralatourism.org/pookalam/pookalam.php — offers a captivating tour through the diverse and fascinating facets of the State, which is hailed as one of the must-see destinations in the world.

“Onam is the most important festival for Keralites and it invokes nostalgia in every Malayalee, especially those living outside the State,” says Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar. “Apart from sharing the home scenes with non-resident Keralites by giving them a virtual journey through the video clips, the government also wants to take this unique experience to the entire world, especially to prospective visitors. Each thump image on the Pookkalam is linked to a corresponding video that the user can open with a double click.
