Yet another accident involving tipper lorries, this one resulting in the death of a housewife, has been reported here on Saturday.

It was on Wednesday that a tipper lorry ran over three tiny tots on their way home from school near Mavelikara. On Saturday around 5 p.m.,

Omana, 40, a resident of Vaikom was on her way to a relative’s house in Muhamma along with her husband Anandakuttan on a two-wheeler when a speeding tipper lorry hit the bike from behind and ran over Omana,

crushing her to death on the spot. Anandakuttan sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical.

The local residents, furious over the delay in the police arriving on the spot and at the lorry driver, who drove off without stopping, blocked the road and even stopped Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac who was passing by. The irate public did not allow the Minister to leave the place until police teams from Muhamma and Mararikulam arrived.

The police have registered a case and are looking for the lorry and its driver.
