: A 23-year-old woman was killed and three others injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a goods lorry in Kayamkulam early on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident occurred at the Kamalalayam junction in Chirakadavam by around 4 a.m. The deceased has been identified as Deepa Sasi, who hailed from Sariga house in Kadavanthara, Ernakulam. Her father Sasi, mother Valsala and the driver Joy, were seriously injured in the accident.

They were returning after a visit at Sasi’s ancestral house in Karunagappally when the accident took place. The mangled remains of the car had to be cut open to recover the bodies of the passengers. Although they were rushed to the Kayamkulam taluk hospital, Deepa was declared dead on arrival.

While those injured were later transported to a private hospital in Ernakulam, the ambulance broke down at Alappuzha and the patients had to be shifted to another.
