NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair has rejected the offer of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for talks to iron out outstanding issues.
Speaking to the media persons who met him at the NSS headquarters at Perunna, he said the offer was only part of the tactics practiced by the Chief Minister.
The NSS had already made it clear that the organisation was not interested in holding talks with the Congress, which had not only breached the trust but also insulted and vilified the organisation, he said. Mr. Nair used the Malayalam equivalent of the English usage ‘Bull in the China Shop’ to describe the situation in the Education Department and said there was a concerted effort to weaken the aided education sector.
Mr. Nair also took a serious view of the government order dated July 18 regarding higher secondary school appointments. The stipulation that the details of vacancies should be published on the notice boards of grama and district panchayats was not feasible. The decision to extend 65 and 70 marks to the academic merit of the applicant while giving only 10 marks for performance was objected by Mr. Nair.
That the rank list should be published on the school notice board too would have to be objected, he said, and added that the rank list was being sent to the higher secondary regional deputy directors. The NSS had strictly followed so far the directives of GO dated July 29, 2004, on appointment of teachers, he said.
