A refreshing shower bath is something captive elephants at the camp of the Forest Department at Konni will now look forward to every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More interestingly, a small gallery may soon come up around the jumbo shower for visitors to catch a glimpse of the elephants relishing their shower bath.

Initiative

The giant shower bath has come up due to the initiative taken by Divisional Forest Officer T. Pradeepkumar.

The Forest Department has installed the facility at the elephant camp, which is also identified as the eco-tourism hub of Pathanamthitta.

Installation cost

The jumbo shower cost Rs.1.5 lakh for installation.

The water stored in a special storage tank will be pumped into the shower to give a freshening bath to each of the eight pachyderms in the camp every day.

The Forest Department has already set up independent modern sheds for all the captive elephants, besides the old wooden elephant kraal at the camp.
