No one in the Congress is afraid of Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State unit secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.

Mr. Chennithala, at a press conference here on Sunday, was responding to a question related to a post by K. Sudhakaran, MP, on a social networking site that stated that the government had handled the SNC Lavalin case lightly, and some Congress leaders and those holding key positions in the United Democratic Front were scared of Mr. Vijayan.

“Who were former Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, K. Radhakrishnan, MLA, and their colleagues who queued up at the Viyyur jail to meet the convicts of the RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case, afraid of?” Mr. Chennithala said.

He said the State government’s policy was reflected in its in-principle decision to seek a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the conspiracy behind the murder.

“A case is transferred to the CBI on the basis of complaints lodged by the kith and kin of the murdered. The same happened in the Fazal and the Shukkoor cases. Follow-up action will be taken on the basis of a report submitted by a special team that investigates the conspiracy behind the murder of Chandrasekharan,” the Minister said.
