‘No scope for a third front in Kerala’

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the move of the ousted Assembly Chief Whip and disgruntled Kerala Congress (M) leader P.C. George to form a parallel coalition will not succeed in the State.

Speaking to media persons in Kozhikode on Monday, Mr. Chennithala stated that there was "no scope for a third front in the State."  None of the partners in the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front will leave the coalition, he said.

The former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president said that it was up to Mr. George to decide whether he wanted to remain “inside or outside" the UDF.

"Of course, there are issues in the UDF. But these would be solved amicably. There is no issue that cannot be solved. UDF is united to fight the coming local body polls and subsequently the Assembly polls,” Mr. Chennithala said.

Replying to questions, he said that the government would not interfere in the Vigilance case against Excise Minister K. Babu that he had taken bribe from bar hotel owners for renewing licence. "It is a Vigilance case. There is a system in place. There will be no political interference.  Neither the government nor the Minister would influence the probe, "he said.

The Home Minister said that people would obviously suspect when the government declined to order a Vigilance case. "Let us see if there is any truth in the allegations," he said.

Mr. Chennithala also said that the Home Department had not faulted in taking up with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) the probe into the wider conspiracy in the murder of the Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T.P. Chandrasekharan at Onchiyam on May 4, 2012.

He said that the State government had already decided to hand over the case to the CBI. However it was up to the CBI whether to investigate the case or turn down the request of the government, he added.
