No need to quit: Thomas chandy

September 23, 2017 08:49 pm | Updated 08:49 pm IST - Kochi

Transport Minister Thomas Chandy has dismissed allegations of land grab saying he has not encroached upon even a cent of revenue land. There was no need for me to resign, he told the media here on Saturday.

He said the passage to his resort was filled with land temporarily. He would remove the filling if it would emerge that it was government property. Even the allegation that he had encroached upon the Marthandam lake was a fabricated one, he said, maintaining that there was conspiracy behind the allegations.

“The conspiracy did not happen within the LDF or his party [NCP] but was hatched outside,” he said, promising to reveal it at the right time.

He said he had bought land with a sale deed from the paddy collective. This was the land that was filled. While the extent of the land area was 3.10 acres, construction was done only on one acre. Mr. Chandy also maintained that it was not his job to safeguard the files [pertaining to his property] at the Alappuzha municipality.
