Nine days of prayer and festivities begin

Navaratri celebrations began in temples on Tuesday and will continue till October 23 when the festival of Vijayadashami will be celebrated.

The biggest of these celebrations are organised at Sreesaraswathy temple, Panachikkad, where nearly 5,000 persons have registered for participating in the cultural programmes.

The inaugural ceremony on Tuesday was followed by bhajans, sruthy-laya sangamom, violin music mridamgam, and bharatanatyam recitals.

The National Music and Dance Festival was inaugurated by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Minister for Transport. Sangeetha Saraswathy Award, instituted by Panachikkad Devaswom, was presented to Kalamandalam Babu Namboodiri by actor Jayaram.

The National Music and Dance Festival will have Bharatanatyam by Chennai L. Murukeswari and team on Wednesday night.

The festivities at Pallipurathu Kavu, Kodimatha, were inaugurated by Kottayam municipal chairman K.R.G. Warrier. Music, Devi Bhagavatha recital, Narayaneeyam recital, Thiruvathira kali, and bhajans have been scheduled as part of the celebrations.

The Navaratri celebrations at Kottayam Brahmana Samooham commenced with Lakshi Pooja. Chief priest Murali Vadhyar led the pooja. This was followed by Kanya pooja in which young girls were presented with costumes and sweets. According to Madom authorities, there will be thamboola vithranam every evening till the ayudhapooja day.

On display till Nov. 23

The arrangement of deities, ‘Bommakkolu,’ will be on display till November 23.
