Union Minister of State for Sports Vijay Goel said that the government would soon form a special task force to ensure the country’s better performance in the next three Olympics.

Speaking after presenting the Sports Authority of India (SAI) awards at Calicut University on Saturday, Mr. Goel said a portal would be launched to identify sporting talents from across the country.

Sportspersons may upload information on the portal, which will be tracked by the SAI. “The best of talents will get special training by SAI,” the Minister said.

He said seminars and symposia were being held to review India’s performance in the Rio Olympics. Corporate sector would be linked with sports for sportspersons to get better support, he said. Mr. Goel said the SAI would begin a centre on the Calicut University campus if the university allowed it.

Mr. Goel, who had represented Delhi University in kho-kho national championship, praised the university for its sports initiatives.

Vice Chancellor K. Mohammed Basheer presided over the function.
