Neerettupuram Pampa boat race on August 29

The 56th annual Pampa boat race will be held in River Pampa at Neerettupuram on the Thiruvonam day on August 29, according to Victor T. Thomas, race committee chairman.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr Thomas said the main teams that took part in the Nehru Trophy boat race in Alappuzha are expected to participate in the Neerettupuram Pampa boat race to be held on August 29 afternoon.

The organising committee has also planned celebrations beginning from Atham, the first day of the 10-day Onam festival. The celebrations include a cultural fest, arts and sports competitions for school children, and a Vanchippattu contest.

K.C. Joseph, Cultural Affairs Minister; Prof P.J. Kurien, Rajya Sabha member; MPs Kodikkunnil Suresh and Anto Antony; MLAs Mathew T. Thomas and Thomas Chandy; and Radhakrishnan Namboodiri, chief priest at the Chakkulathukavu Bhagavathy Temple will address the inaugural ceremony of the snake-boat regatta.
