Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here on Monday that national parties had no solution to offer to the Mullaperiyar issue.
The parties raise an outcry over the issue, but suggest nothing concrete to end it, he told mediapersons.
“Talks on the issue would continue in spite of the fact that they had not yielded results so far. Both sides should sit for talks and sort out the issue. The Prime Minister is in Chennai, meeting leaders in this connection. Hence, I do not want to comment more on the issue,” he added.
Asked whether he could act as a mediator in the talks, he answered, “The Prime Minister is already doing so. I do not consider myself more important than him.”
Replying to a question, he said he did not believe that foreign forces were behind Team Anna.
Asked about the objections raised by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's administrative lapses, he said, “The CAG is a constitutional body. Its job is not to present bouquets to the government, but to critically look at its activities. The lapses it points out will be looked into by the Public Accounts Committee and Parliament.”
He said radars would be set up at 42 centres along the State's coastal belt to shore up defence against terrorism and mafia activities.
