College now eligible for more UGC funds

D.B. College Sasthamcotta has been awarded the ‘A’ Grade certification by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Previously, the college was in the B+ category. The higher NAAC grade will now enable the college to get enhanced financial assistance from the University Grants Commission (UGC). The college currently gets a UGC grant of Rs.50 lakh annually. With the ‘A’ Grade, the grant is likely to be enhanced to Rs.1.5 crore.

The higher grade also enables the college to get more aid from other funding agencies too. Presently, around 2,200 students, mostly from the economically backward villages in the vicinity of Sasthamcotta are studying in the college.

The college, managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board, offers six postgraduate and 15 graduate courses in addition to providing research opportunities in two departments. In a statement, college Principal D. Latheesh said the academic achievements of the college had helped it gain the higher grade.
