Music and film lovers in Chittur mourned the demise of the singer. Her relatives in Chittur received the information that she died in Chennai on Sunday.
Swarnalatha was born in 1973 to K.P. Cherukutty and Kalyani of Choyan House, Raghapuram, Kizhakkepara near Athikkode in Chittur. She left Chittur to live with his father, a musician, in Shimoga in Karnataka at an early age.
Swarnalatha was a popular singer since 1989.
