Tourism amenities should not be limited to a few places in Alappuzha district as there are a number of spots that could attract tourists, K.C. Venugopal, MP, has said.

He was giving away awards for tourism to various entities on the occasion of Tourism Day in Alappuzha on Saturday. Beaches, backwaters, and canals were in close proximity in the district.

The scenario could be ideal for circuit tourism, Mr. Venugopal said.

The tourism sector could offer maximum number of job opportunities in the district. Involvement of middlemen in the operation of houseboats should be avoided, he said. Authorities should keep vigil against encroachments on backwaters. Pollution of backwaters should also be curtailed, he said.

Sub Collector D. Balamurali; Dy.SP K.Lalji; Cherthala municipal chairperson Jayalakshmi Anilkumar; and DTPC secretary C. Pradeep spoke.
