The public have supported the State government drive to protect the public education system, C.N. Jayadeven, MP, has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the revenue district level school opening festival at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Nanthikkara.

“The bank balance of parents should not determine the quality of education provided for the children. Even children with 50 % marks used to get enrolled in private schools paying more money. But things have changed now. Now students are coming back to public schools,” he said.

District Panchayat president Sheila Vijayakumar presided over the festival. District Education Deputy Director distributed uniforms to the students. Around 1,000 senior students lighted lamps.

Children, joining for the first standard, were welcomed with band sets. Balloons and toys were distributed. The walls were painted in bright colours.
