Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that a new confidence has taken over the Congress in the State after the election of the new booth committee presidents. These leaders now have the responsibility of leading the Congress to victory in next year’s local body elections.

Mr. Chandy said this while addressing a district-level convention of the newly-elected booth committee presidents here on Monday. The new booth chiefs were the prime link between the party and the people.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre which had completed 100 days in office was only able to carry forward the programmes of the previous United Progressive Alliance government led by the Congress. These programmes were criticised by the BJP while in the opposition.

He said all steps were being taken to formally sanction a government medical college hospital for Kollam at the earliest.

Work on the approach road for the newly constructed bridge parallel to the Iron Bridge across the Kollam canal would commence from October 1. The meeting was presided over by DCC president V. Sathyaseelan. Congress leaders Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, K.C. Rajan, Sooranad Rajashekaran, Bharatheepuram Sasi, Raj Mohan Unnithan, and Kodkunnil Suresh were present.
