State Women's Commission chairperson D. Sreedevi has said that instances of mobile phones becoming an instrument for erosion of fidelity among couples and cheating women are on the rise in the State.
Talking to presspersons here on Saturday, she said mobile phones had become instrumental in ruining several family lives. Many of the women who were victims of mobile phone misuse were educated.
She called for an awareness campaign against the misuse of mobile phones and to prevent women from falling prey to strangers' advances through the mobile phone.
Till October this year, the commission had received 30 mobile phone-related complaints, she said.
She said the commission had ample evidence of child marriages in districts such as Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod. The commission would take up a campaign to put an end to the practice. Government funds were awaited for the campaign, she said.
Domestic violence was also on the rise in the State. Complaints showed that liquor, drugs and dowry were its main causes. The commission would undertake a special campaign to promote the motto ‘dowry-free Kerala, ostentation-free weddings,' she said.
Ms. Sreedevi said the cooperation of men was vital to eradicate dowry. Till October 31 this year, the commission had received 5,900 complaints. The majority of these were from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, she said.
