Missing couple: body of husband, car traced

June 06, 2011 02:34 pm | Updated 08:29 pm IST - ALAPPUZHA:

A day after the body of Nisha, who had gone missing along with her husband Maniraj on Thursday, was found, the body of Maniraj and the car in which they were travelling have been found.

The car, which had Maniraj's body trapped inside, was found in the TS Canal near Thottapally, near a bridge. Police suspect the car could have skidded and hurtled straight into the canal below.

Nisha's body was found on Sunday a few kilometres away from where the car was traced. Police had found parts of the car on Sunday night, but with inclement weather posing challenges, the search had to be halted at about 11.30 p.m.. The search resumed on Monday and by 10 a.m., the car was dragged ashore.

The body has been shifted to the Alappuzha Medical College hospital morgue for post-mortem.

Maniraj had arrived from the Middle East a week ago to return with Nisha and their son on Saturday. The couple, hailing from Ochira in Kollam district, had gone to Ernakulam on Thursday for shopping.

They were reported missing that night. Three days later, Nisha's body surfaced in the canal. Police strongly believe it was a case of Maniraj losing control of the car in the heavy rain. However, an investigation is on with the Kollam police leading the probe.
