The Government has asked Official Language Department to prepare a law for making teaching of Malayalam compulsory at various levels, Minister for Culture and Rural Development K. C. Joseph said here on Thursday.
The law will be drawn up after examining similar laws in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Preliminary consultations had been completed.
The Minister said that the tent theatre project of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, development of cartoonist Sankar memorial museum at Krishnapuram near Kayamkulam and Ravi Varma Art Gallery at Kilimanoor and Kalagramam at Sreekandapuram would be completed on mission mode (as part of the Mission 676).
Besides seven heritage museums at the district level, modernisation of museums at Koyickal Palace, Tripoonithura Hill Palace and Kozhikode would be taken up. The digitisation of ‘Mathilakam records’ would be completed. The museum on independence struggle at Vattiyoorkavu here would be completed in six months.
He said that the activities of the Hill Area Development Agency would be expanded. The Agency would take up improvement of 525 roads in the hilly areas with total length of 390 km. The Agency would give priority of construction of water harvesting structures and check dams.
