Minister announces Kerala Trade Awards

The following companies won the first Kerala Trade Awards for paying the highest amounts as commercial tax and maintaining the best record of tax compliance in the State across various segments of trade and commerce during the year 2008-09, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac announced here on Tuesday:

Gold: Joy Alukkas India Private Ltd.

Construction materials (corporate): Asian Paints, Kochi.

Construction materials (non-corporate): Mitson Enterprises, Kochi.

Readymade garments: Seematti, Kochi.

Motor vehicles: Indus Motors, Kochi.

Electrical and Electronic goods (corporate): Havells India, Kochi.

Electrical and Electronic goods (non-corporate): Lavish Electricals.

Rubber products (corporate): Apollo Tyres, Kochi.

Rubber products (non-corporate): Sree Kailas Rubber Traders, Thiruvananthapuram.

White goods/sanitary items (corporate): Samson India Electronics, Kochi.

White goods/sanitary items (non-corporate): Modern Sanitary.

Dr. Isaac said the department would present a special award to P.U. Jose of JNB Marketing [I] Private Ltd., Kochi, taking into consideration the dedicated service rendered by him to the taxation system in the State. “His contribution in bridging the gap between the department and the trading community during the initial years of VAT implementation was vital and his positive suggestions and support during the implementation stage of e-filing and e-payment helped the department stabilise the system,” Dr. Isaac said.

The awards will be presented at a function in Kochi on July 31.
