Mega plans for ports, marinas

A sum of Rs.158 crore has already been provided for the pre-project works of Kochi metro rail project.

A coastal shipping transport policy will be formulated for the State, Minister for Finance K.M. Mani has said. Presenting the State Budget 2012-13 on Monday, Mr. Mani said marinas would be developed in Alappuzha and Thalaserry to attract tourists.

The government would develop Neendakara, Kayamkulam, Vadakara, Thalasserry, Kannur, Cheruvathooor, Neeleswaram, Kasaragod, Manjeshwaram, Beypore, Azhikkal, Vizhinjam, and Thangasserry cargo harbours and Kodungaloor and Munambam ports.

The Minister said the Department of Ports had been given Rs.247 crore and the Harbour Engineering Department, Rs.22 crore in the budget.
