The police arrested Harilal Burman, 24, from Sattipur in Assam in connection with the murder of Uppu Burman, 21, an Assamese labourer whose decomposed body was found in a deserted coconut field at Munduparamba, near here, a week ago.
A police team comprising Circle Inspector R. Asokan, assistant sub-inspector Ummer Memana, and senior civil police officer Sabu Lal picked up Harilal from Assam during the investigation into the murder.
The decapitated body of Uppu Burman, son of Niru Barman from Dhaligaon in Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) of Chirang, was recovered from Munduparamba on February 24.
Harilal is said to have killed Uppu Burman with the help of two of his Assamese friends to recover cash from his bank account. Uppu Burman’s brothers reportedly owed Harilal’s brothers some money in connection with a chitty. Being a close aide of Uppu Burman, Harilal knew his ATM pin. The police said Harilal had withdrawn Rs. 38,000 from Uppu Burman’s account using his ATM card after killing him.
He was brought here on Thursday and taken to the coconut field where the murder was committed and the body was found.
A large number of people had gathered to catch a glimpse of the accused.
