Malappuram RTO shifted

The Transport Department has started to act tough in the wake of two major accidents in the district on last consecutive Fridays, which claimed 21 lives and injured more than 30 people. Malappuram Regional Transport Officer (RTO) V. Suresh Kumar was transferred for his failure in preventing the accident at Thelakkad near Perinthalmanna on Friday in which 13 people were killed when a speeding mini bus turned on its side after hitting a tree.

M.P. Ajit Kumar took charge as the new RTO on Saturday. Mr. Kumar and his team immediately swung into action. They conducted special checks at different places across the district and cancelled fitness certificates of 34 private buses.

Mr. Ajit Kumar said the certificates were cancelled as the buses had failed to install speed governors. He said officials of the Motor Vehicles Department would continue their vigil in the coming days.
