Madhuri backs Janaki

Says she should have been given award at least 25 years ago

Playback singer P. Madhuri has said that singer S. Janaki, who rejected the Padma Bhushan Award, should have been given the award at least 25 years ago. Defending Ms. Janaki’s gesture of rejecting the award given to her at the fag end of her career, Ms. Madhuri said “It is quite unfair that a singer of her stature gets a Padma award only when she is no more active in the scene.”
