LPG supply hit in central Kerala

April 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:37 am IST - KOCHI:

Cooking gas supply in central Kerala continues to be hit following a strike by contract workers at the Indian Oil Corporation’s Udayamperoor bottling plant.

The strike, which started on April 16, looks sure to go on till at least Monday, when the District Collector is expected to call a meeting of the striking workers, trade union sources said.

At the same time, labour authorities scheduled a meeting for May 5 after talks failed to reconcile the wage issue on Friday.

Cooking gas supply to households in central Kerala has been crippled for nearly two weeks now because of a strike by lorry drivers at the BPCL’s Irumbanam bottling plant.

The strike was called off on April 15.
