Education loanees in the State are caught in a quandary on whether not to repay their loans as advised by various quarters or to relent to the pressure exerted by banks.
A convention of education loanees organised by the Indian Nurses Parents Association (INPA) here on Friday did little to address their dilemma. ost of the speakers exhorted the gathering against settling their outstanding dues, primarily owing to the reason that the successive governments had ‘failed’ in guaranteeing employment opportunities with decent incomes.
According to INPA advisory board member S. Rajeevan, the lack of opportunities has led to a situation wherein most education loanees, particularly those who had pursued nursing education, have benefited little in the long run through the loans.
“The prime beneficiaries of the nurses’ toil are the many private hospital managements and the society as a whole. However, the absence of decent pay and service conditions has led to the loanees gaining little ,” he said.
