Utter confusion prevails over the renewal of the ration card as part of the implementation of the National Food Security Act. New guidelines and norms are coming out everyday. The relevance of the card for people in the Above Poverty Line category is perhaps nothing more than that of a personal identification document. When Kerala has close to hundred per cent Aadhaar enrolment, making millions of people queue up for getting their photographs taken is insensitive and inhuman. The renewal and issue of the new ration card should be done on the basis of details provided in the prescribed application form and further linking it with Aadhaar.
