CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan has alleged that the Centre used CBI to overcome the cut motion moved by Left parties against its policies in Parliament.

The Congress-led UPA government succeeded in keeping the small parties along with them by using the CBI as a weapon, Mr. Bardhan said at a public meeting here on Sunday night.

Referring to the spiralling prices, he said Union government was not taking any steps to deal with black marketers and check forward trading of foodgrains and blamed Centre’s policy for current spurt in prices. Left parties would intensify its stir against the Centre’s ‘anti-people’ policies, he said.

Rising prices of essential commodities, growing unemployment and corruption have made the commonman’s life miserable, he said.

Criticising the ‘Food Security Act’, Mr. Bardhan said the proposal to supply 25 kg rice to below poverty line families at Rs. 3 per kg was a farce as it would cover only a marginal population.
