Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader and Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikkutty has accused the Left Democratic Front (LDF) of taking a soft stand towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in those constituencies where the electoral contest was mainly between the UDF and the BJP.

Mr. Kunhalikkutty was addressing an election campaign meeting of K. sivadasan Nair, the UDF candidate, here on Sunday afternoon.

He said the electoral contest in Kerala was between the UDF and the LDF.

But, in certain constituencies like Manjeswaram, Kasaragod, Vattiyurkavu, Kazhakkoottam and Nemom, the contest was mainly between the UDF and the BJP. The LDF should avoid its ‘supportive stand’ towards the BJP candidates in these constituencies, he said.

The IUML leader said the UDF would win the electoral battle with the LDF.

He said the five-year UDF rule of the State had achieved tremendous development in the sectors of information technology, health, education, and infrastructure development.

Mr. Kunhalikkutty said the State witnessed a great leap in the fields of road development and urban development during the past five years.

No government in the past had launched such a variety of development and welfare schemes for the uplift of the poor and the downtrodden sections of the society, he claimed.

He said the UDF government provided one lakh job opportunities in the IT sector, besides raising the revenue in the sector above Rs.18,000 crore.

The UDF district chairman, T.M. Hameed, presided over the meeting in Pathanamthitta.

K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA; P. Mohanraj, Distrit Congress Committee president; K.E. Abdul Rahman, IUML district president; and Rejani Pradeep, municipal chairperson; also spoke.
