In what appears to a mellowing of the earlier stance of the LDF with regard to the mass contact programme by the Chief Minister, the LDF convener Vaikom Viswan has said that while there was no change in the LDF’s decision to waylay the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, they would not obstruct people from attending the function.
Addressing a Meet-the-Press programme here on Wednesday, Mr. Viswan said, “we will continue our agitation showing black flags to the Chief Minister and waylaying of his journeys and functions, till he tendered his resignation and brought his office under the purview of the proposed judicial inquiry into the solar panel scam.”
Making it clear that the party would not compromise on the issue, he said the mass contact programmes were an eye-wash as the Chief Minister was doing the work of a village officer during the programme. However, he was unclear as to whether the LDF would allow the Chief Minister to attend the programme.
The LDF convener called for arrest of Congress spokesperson Rajmohan Unnithan for his reported remark that any move to obstruct the mass contact programme would result in another Koothuparambu.
Left activists will not be cowed down by such threatening words, he said and alleged that the UDF was following a different policy for their own leaders and the leaders from the Left.
“The UDF had initiated legal proceedings against CPI(M) leader M. M. Mani in a similar case. Unnithan should also be brought to book for his remarks,” he said.
Reacting to a question, Mr. Viswan said that the UDF government had failed to attend to the suggestions made by the LDF for inclusion in the terms of reference for the judicial inquiry into the solar panel case. Former MLA and CPI(M) leader V. N. Vasavan was also present at the press conference.
