: CPI national executive member Binoy Viswam has said that the constant betrayal of public trust has been the hallmark of the UDF government during its four years of governance.

Inaugurating the siege organised by the district unit of the Left Democratic Front in front of the District Collectorate here on Wednesday to demand the resignation of Finance Minister K.M. Mani, Mr. Viswam accused Chief Minister Oommen Chandy of protecting those involved in corruption. The government will have to face the consequences if it continued to ignore public sentiments and allowed those facing serious allegations to remain in power, he said.

Mr. Viswam also alleged that the Chief Minister had launched the mass contact programme with an eye on the upcoming elections.

He, however, expressed optimism that the by-election at Aruvikkara will hasten the downfall of the UDF.

According to him, the government was jeopardising the future of several students by failing to ensure that the results of the SSLC examinations were declared in a systematic and foolproof manner.

The justification of the government that the problem arose due to a technical glitch was unacceptable.

G. Sudhakaran, MLA, presided over the meeting. T.M. Thomas Isaac, P. Thilothaman, C.K. Sadasivan, MLAs, district panchayat president U. Prathibha Hari, CPI(M) district secretary Saji Cheriyan, LDF district convener R. Nasar, C.S. Sujatha, ex-MP and CPI State executive member T. Purushothaman participated in the demonstration.
