Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretariat member Pannian Ravindran on Sunday said the Land Acquisition Bill that has been introduced by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government was aimed at promoting the commercial interests of corporate establishments at the expense of the common populace.
Inaugurating a protest meet organised by the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) at the Alappuzha beach on Sunday, Mr. Ravindran accused the Narendra Modi government of dividing the country on communal lines and also widening wealth inequality among the industrialists and the common man. He said the Hindutva extremist forces were given a free run in the country to implement their agenda.
“It was a matter of shame that certain parliamentarians belonging to the ruling coalition have taken the lead to stir up communal tension. Several incidents during the 10 months of the NDA rule have instilled fear among minorities in various parts of the country. Attempts being made to rupture the secular fabric of the country must be jointly countered by all sections of the society,” he said.
CPI district secretary P. Thilothaman, MLA, Santhigiri Ashram organising secretary Gururatnam Jnana Tapaswi, Kerala Muslim Yuvajana Federation leader Kadakkal Junaid, CPI leaders N. Sukumara Pillai, T.J. Angelose, M.K. Uthaman, AIYF national council member Deepthi Ajayakumar, district president P.S.M. Hussain and district secretary T.T. Jismon also spoke on the occasion.
