The work of integrating the new overhead tank constructed under the JICA scheme at Aruvikkara proceeded apace on Saturday as the capital city went without water since Saturday morning.

The integration of the tank to the existing water distribution system is expected to take 30 hours to get completed.

The existing JICA tank had become too dilapidated to be of use.

Taking advantage of the two-day shutdown, Kerala Water Authority (KWA) personnel also worked on setting right a leak on a 1,000-mm line at Peroorkada. They also engaged in rehabilitation work inside the 72- mld treatment plant at Aruvikkara. This also involved shifting of power lines.

Santhosh Sathyapal, KWA executive engineer at Aruvikkara, said here that if the work proceeded as planned, the supply of drinking water would resume by 4 p.m on Sunday.
