Kurien calls for time-bound execution of SC/ST schemes

Says measures will be taken to provide land to tribespeople

People’s representatives as well as officials should take extra care for implementation of various Centrally-sponsored projects for uplift of the scheduled sections of society, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien has said.

here on Thursday.

He said measures would be taken on a war footing to provide land to the landless tribal people.

Urgent steps would be taken to facilitate the land of their choice to the tribespeople, he said.

Prof. Kurien said there should be a foolproof mechanism for monitoring the time-bound execution of various welfare schemes for the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste sections.

All eligible persons should be provided gas connection under the Prime Minister’s Ujwal Yojana and all drinking water supply

schemes under the National Drinking Water Supply Programme should be completed as scheduled, he said.

Prof. Kurien said nobody could abandon the once-approved drinking water schemes on the grounds of paucity of funds. The situation in which the authorities were unable to complete various ongoing projects owing to non-availability of Central fund would be brought to the notice of the Union Government, he said.

The Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman stressed the need to ensure superior quality for the schemes to provide mid-day meals and uniforms to school children under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

The meeting also decided to complete the electrification of various anganawadis in the district in a time-bound manner.
