Faizal to file papers today, Kodiyeri to open LDF convention

IUML general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty on Monday filed his nomination for the April 12 by-election in the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency. Party district president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal proposed his name.

Mr. Kunhalikutty filed his papers before District Collector Amit Meena along with Mr. Thangal, IUML working secretary E.T. Mohammed Basheer, MP; Congress leader Aryadan Mohammed, and District Congress Committee president V.V. Prakash.

The UDF kicked off its election campaign with a convention here in the evening. Several senior leaders of the UDF, including Oommen Chandy, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, Aryadan Mohammed, P.P. Thankachan and K. Sankaranarayanan, took part in the convention.

Inaugurating it, IUML State president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal warned people to maintain utmost vigil against the growth of fascism. He said the BJP was unleashing terror through various means at the Centre while the CPI(M) was making life difficult for people in the State. Mr. Chennithala said the Sangh Parivar had sent out a warning across the country by making Yogi Adityanath the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

LDF candidate M.B. Faizal will file his nomination on Tuesday. The LDF will hold its first election convention at Municipal Town Hall on Tuesday. CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will inaugurate the convention. LDF leaders Kanam Rajendran, Vaikom Viswan, P.K. Sreemathy, MP, Satyan Mokeri, Ministers Kadannappally Ramachandran and K.T. Jaleel, Uzhavoor Vijayan, P.T.A. Raheem, A. Vijayaraghavan, Paloli Mohammed Kutty, and Francis George will speak.
